Archaeological pre-development testing was carried out at the site of a proposed commercial development at the rear of No. 4 Egan's Lane, Tuam, Co. Galway on 4 and 11 May, 2019, following a Further Information Request by Galway County Council.
The mechanical excavation of four trenches revealed the remains of three mid to late-nineteenth-century walls, two of which appear to relate to the same outbuilding (Trenches 2 and 3) and one of which corresponds with the line of a dividing wall shown on the Second Edition OS 25” Map of 1890-98. Elsewhere, the trenches comprised highly disturbed fills, with post-medieval to modern finds. There were no finds or features of archaeological significance discovered.
