Archaeological monitoring of groundworks was carried out at a terraced building, protected structure, RPS 3480, in Kinvara, Co. Galway, over a seven-day period, from 10 to 26 September 2019. The groundworks comprised the removal of concrete floors to the ground floor of the main building and to a stone-built extension to the rear and the reduction in ground level of between 0.4m and 0.8m in depth.
No features of archaeological significance was discovered during the monitoring works. A stone-lined drain was discovered in the rear extension, orientated from west to east. It was excavated into a compact natural soil and was contemporary with the construction of the rear extension, which is of mid-nineteenth-century date. A number of finds were discovered, all of which were of post-medieval to twentieth century in date, in highly mixed fills underlying the concrete flooring in the rear extension. There were no finds in the rooms or hallway of the main house.
