2019:240 - TUAM: Townparks 2nd Division, Galway

The site of the proposed development covers an approximate area of 1.3 hectares to the northern side of the Seán Purcell Road on the southern edge of Tuam. There is a slight slope from the north down to the road. The field is under grass but overgrown with a row of large mature beech trees along the northern boundary. A total of six test-trenches were excavated using a 16-tonne tracked excavator with a 2m grading bucket. Excavation proceeded in level spits of 0.2m. Topsoil was uniform across the site, 0.2m in depth with an orange silty clay, 0.1–0.4m in depth overlying a compact orange and grey boulder clay. No archaeological features or material was identified.
