Pre-development testing was carried out over a six-day period, from 15 January to 22 February 2019, at the site of the proposed Strategic Housing Development at Troscaigh Thoir (Trusky East), Bearna, Co. Galway, in compliance with an An Bord Pleanála planning condition. Nineteen trenches, varying in length from 15m to 50m and 1m in width, were excavated to undisturbed natural in all trenches. The programme of testing did not result in the discovery of heretofore unknown or unrecorded archaeological features. The stratigraphy was seen to be comprised almost entirely of a thin sod and topsoil overlying undisturbed gritty sand and granite bedrock.
