Archaeological monitoring and excavation was carried out on behalf of IPUT PLC at the site of a mixed residential and commercial development at Nos 30-32 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2.

Monitoring of all ground disturbance, including ground investigation pits, piling, foundation digging and bulk excavation, was carried out.

Extensive remains were found of buildings that preceded the existing Dublin Tropical Fruit Warehouse building - a protected structure (RPS 7548) - at the site. These buildings included Georgian-type dwelling houses, as well as industrial and commercial structures, which partially adapted the basement structures of the preceding houses. Features representing the different phases of use at the site include cellars of the Georgian-era houses, a long, paved storeroom, and a furnace.

All structural remains affected by construction work were subject to full excavation.

A large quantity of artifacts, in materials ranging from ceramic to textile, was found, mostly dating from before the construction of the Dublin Tropical Fruit Warehouse building in the 1890s.
