Monitoring was carried out on separate days between 24 and 31 May 2019. Excavation took place for the purposes of installing a basement in the extension to the adjacent Ripley Court Hotel. No archaeological material was recovered.
Subsequent to the demolition of the existing structures, the site comprised a basement-level floor that extended up to c. 30m from the street. The monitored area, where the ground was lowered, comprised an area c. 10m from the street, and c.13.7m wide between the adjoining structures.
There are no archaeological features remaining on the site. The exposed section under the street indicated that the ground had been extensively reclaimed in the 19th century, with the lowest levels indicative of 19th-century debris.
