From 13 September to 31 October 2019, unlicensed archaeological monitoring was undertaken of groundworks in advance of the construction of apartment blocks in the grounds of Chanel College, Main Street, Coolock, Dublin 5.

The groundworks comprised the stripping of topsoil and subsoil across the site, as well as the reduction of the natural level to accommodate an underground carpark for the apartment development. In addition, a water sump and a hollow for the installation of a crane base were excavated.

Much of the ground on the site had been previously disturbed and re-laid, evidenced by a subsoil layer of modern building debris. Some post-medieval field drains were noted in the subsoil during monitoring, consistent with the use of the area for agriculture and more recently, as demesne parkland.

Nothing of significant archaeological interest was identified during monitoring.
