The site was located in Skerries, Co. Dublin, in the townland of Townparks. The work was carried out in connection with the Skerries Sewerage Network Improvement Scheme. The site was located within the south-east part of Skerries town. The work consisted of archaeological monitoring of all ground disturbances associated with the proposed pumping station works and all ground disturbance along the full length of the proposed sewer pipeline (i.e. Holmpatrick Street and Strand Street), for any launch and or reception shafts for trenchless sewer installation and also for the ducting works (i.e. along Shenick Avenue, Shenick Park and Twelve Acre Lane) where they were open cut. The work was undertaken intermittently between October 2017
and May 2019.

This investigation exposed no archaeological features or deposits, while the foundations of a post-medieval wall and bridge were identified near the junction of Miller’s Lane and Holmpatrick Road, and presumably related to the former millrace (tailrace) from the nearby watermill to the west passing under the roadway. These structures are likely to be post-medieval in date, and probably relate to the structures depicted on the first edition OS map from 1843.

The upgrade works to the Skerries Sewerage Network Improvement Scheme are now complete, and no further archaeological monitoring will be required.
