An investigation of the dry stone wall located on the right bank of the Dodder adjacent to the Smurfit Weir at Beaver Row took place in August 2019. This wall is believed to represent an early section of canalisation of the river Dodder. The trial pits were excavated at the base of the wall.
The results were inconclusive as to determining a date for the wall, but the fact that it is markedly different in construction from the adjoining upstream and downstream sections means that an early construction date for the wall cannot be dismissed.
Monitoring associated with the flood defence works will continue into 2020.
