Monitoring took place here on 19 March and 2 April 2019.
Two areas were monitored. Area 1 is the eastern façade of the Axa building and fronts onto Wolfe Tone Park. Area 2 is the southern façade of the Axa building on the north side of a yard area that fronts onto Abbey Street.
Area 1 - the slab was removed at the eastern façade and there was a concrete surface below.
Area 2 - two trenches were excavated along an existing red brick wall – two red brick walls were identified c. 0.5m below present ground level, both dating to the post medieval/modern period. It is unclear if they are associated with a basement or the foundations of an earlier structure as excavations were very limited.
