Monitoring took place here on 19 March and 2 April 2019.

Two areas were monitored. Area 1 is the eastern façade of the Axa building and fronts onto Wolfe Tone Park. Area 2 is the southern façade of the Axa building on the north side of a yard area that fronts onto Abbey Street.

Area 1—the slab was removed at the eastern façade and there was a concrete surface below.

Area 2—two trenches were excavated along an existing red brick wall—two red brick walls were identified c. 0.5m below present ground level, both dating to the post medieval/modern period. It is unclear if they are associated with a basement or the foundations of an earlier structure as excavations were very limited.
