The assessment was carried out on behalf of Robyn Church following a request for further information associated with a planning application from Fingal County Council (Planning Reference F19A/0173). The site of the proposed development is directly adjacent to DU012-041 (House – 16th/17th century), though the monument is not within the proposed development area. This structure (Balcarrick House) consists of an early 18th-century house with possible elements from an earlier building. Testing was carried out by Deirdre Murphy and Ian Russell on 8 August 2019.
The assessment involved the excavation of five test trenches within the footprint of the proposed development. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified, and no finds were recovered. It is therefore recommended that the proposed development be allowed to proceed as planned.
