This further programme of monitoring and testing served to clarify the nature and extent of impacts across this site. The surface strip demonstrated the extent of the area disturbed through development of the Business Park during the years between 2001-2006 and subsequently around 2008.
Testing in these disturbed areas confirmed that survival of archaeological material was extremely unlikely. The surface strip also delimited the areas that appeared to be undisturbed agricultural land. Testing of these soils was particularly constrained by the wayleave/buffer corridor for the 110KV overhead lines and the haul road created in advance of this development and extended to facilitate this programme of advanced works. The results in all cases showed a considerable depth of plough soil indicative of highly mechanized deep ploughing. While some post-medieval pottery was identified in these soils, it must be viewed as intrusive rather than as indicative of any form of settlement in this area. While sites have been recorded to the south and west, the results from this programme of monitoring and testing and previous testing on adjacent sites (2018 Kim Rice) have not shown evidence of archaeological activity.
