A total of 15 test trenches were excavated across a proposed residential development site comprising 5.23 hectares fronting the N11, between Cabinteely village to the north and Loughlinstown to the south.
Test trenches were excavated with a mechanical digger utilising a 1.5m wide flat-bladed bucket. Trenches measured from 1.35-1.8m in width, and ranged from 15-62m in length. This work was monitored by Thaddeus Breen between 8 and 9 April 2019.
Test trenching produced evidence for modern agricultural and residential use. The only features were drains and service trenches. In the higher area of the site, towards the east, some demolition rubble was found, and roots which were probably from garden trees and shrubs. The potsherds and glass fragment showed that a small quantity of 19th- or 20th-century household refuse found its way into the field. No trace of any pre-modern activity was found.
