Monitoring of groundworks associated with Beckett Park Outfall was undertaken by David McIlreavy and Fergal Murtagh of IAC Ltd in response to planning conditions attached to the development (Planning Ref.: DZ18A/1129). The site is located in the townlands of Laughanstown and Brenanstown, Dublin 18 (ITM 722555/723755). Monitoring was recommended in the desktop assessment (Maeve Tobin 2018) due to the richness of the surrounding archaeological landscape and the proximity of a enclosure site (DU026-006). Previous monitoring carried out during groundworks for Castle Street, Mercer Road and the Beckett Park did not identify any archaeological remains associated with an enclosure at this location (15E0471, 15E0472).
The current site has been subject to disturbances in the past associated with land drainage and storage of waste. More recently the area has been disturbed by temporary attenuation works. Ground works associated with this attenuation was monitored under licence 15E0471 and no evidence for archaeology was found. The stream channel that forms the western limit of the site appears to have been created as a culvert in the late 19th or early 20th century and is not associated with the mill race further to the north at site DU026-080002.
No features of archaeological potential were identified during monitoring.
