Archaeological test trenching was carried out at 9 Lisnode Road, Co. Down on the 30th April 2019.
A small section of the ditch belonging to the adjacent rath (DOW 015:006) was identified within the western end of Test Trench 3. This was investigated through the mechanical excavation of a 0.5m deep sondage (the maximum depth of the invasive works in this area). The upper fill of the ditch was heavily disturbed and contained mainly modern hardcore and infill. Undisturbed ditch layers are likely to survive beneath these disturbed layers and these have been preserved in situ within the development.
