A programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken at Youghal Road, Midleton, Co. Cork in accordance with planning permission issued by An Bord Pleanála for the development of Midleton GAA grounds. Topsoil stripping was undertaken across the 37-acre site to facilitate construction.
A burnt mound was uncovered during the monitoring of topsoil stripping in the north-western corner of the development. The mound is comprised of charcoal-rich silty clay and heat-shattered stones; it measures roughly 10m north-south by 8m and 0.3-0.5 m in depth. The top of the mound lies at 3.128m OD.
The site is preserved in situ below the surface of a GAA playing pitch.
