Archaeological monitoring was carried out between May and September 2019. Ground disturbance associated with the construction of the Boolard Windfarm was carried out by track machines utilising graded buckets. Two phases of archaeological works (test trenching and monitoring) were undertaken; the two phases of works were not carried out simultaneously.
Time was set aside on 1 May 2019 to conduct and conclude the testing of the targeted location at CO002-091 (a ringfort located in the townland of Cloghanughera) separately from the monitoring element of this licence. Testing here found nothing of archaeological significance. Nothing of archaeological significance was impacted by the development.
Development works associated with the construction of the windfarm consisted of the excavation of new access tracks and the upgrading of existing site tracks, excavation of two turbine bases, crane hardstands, set-down areas, turning locations, a control building, a site compound, a meteorological mast, drains, utilities, electrical ducting and soil storage areas.
Nothing of archaeological significance was impacted by the development, nor was archaeology encountered. No further archaeological mitigation was recommended.
