Stage (i)a Test Excavations (19E0710) and metal detection scanning (19R0243) were carried out along the route of the proposed N73 Annakisha Realignment Scheme, Co. Cork on behalf of Cork County Council/Transport Infrastructure Ireland. As part of the re-designed scheme had been tested in 2014 (11E419) only a relatively small area required testing as part of the current contract. A total of 1390 square meters of test trences were inserted across five areas, representing c. 20% of the greenfield area under investigation. Remnants of recent agricultural activity (drains) and limited evidence of relatively modern features (stone wall, ditch and building rubble) were encountered. No archaeological sites were identified.
