The landowner made a planning application to import soil and stone to raise and improve the output of one of his fields. Due to the presence of two burnt mounds in the vicinity (CO025-106 and -170) test excavation was required. The field to be developed was c.4ha in size, gently north-facing with a large drain along its northern boundary. 16 test trenches were excavated, c.18m apart and c.1400 linear meters in total. The general stratigraphy consisted of between 0.2m and 0.4m of a mid-grey loamy topsoil overlying orange-brown gravels to the east and grey boulder clay to the west, where the ground was noticeably wetter. A number of modern south-east/north-west running drains were noted, otherwise no archaeology was found.
