The landowner applied for planning permission to build a cattle shed and access track partly within the Zone of Archaeological Potential of the site of Lettertinlish castle. The exact location of the castle is unknown as it was last known to be standing at the end of the seventeenth century. Seven test trenches were excavated along the route of the track and over the footprint of the proposed shed which is located in a level field of pasture with a rock outcrop to the north. The stratigraphy consisted of between 0.15m and 0.2m of a loose, light-brown topsoil overlying areas of bedrock and a very compact mid-brown gravel. No archaeology was found.
