An application to Cork County Council to construct a farmyard in a greenfield location in Ballindeasig townland, c. 3km to the south of Minane Bridge, led to a request for further information on the grounds that the proposed development is in close proximity to a ringfort (CO113-016001) and a country house (CO113-016002). Both monuments are located approximately 115m south-west of the development site and the ringfort has been incorporated as a feature in the extensive gardens of Ballindeasig House. The subject lands comprise three pasture fields adjacent to a tertiary public road and a test excavation was carried out to determine the presence or otherwise of potential buried archaeological features. Five trenches were placed in those areas of the proposed development that will be subject to maximum ground disturbance. Two were placed across the footprint of a livestock housing building and one each across the locations for a milking parlour, silage pits and access roads. All were excavated into the surface of the natural subsoil and no finds or features of archaeological significance were uncovered.
