A single test trench was opened within the former Cork, Blackrock and Passage Railway terminus building.

Testing found that the truncated remains of both the southern and the central platforms survive within the former terminus. The rails and sleepers appear to have been removed before the ground level was raised to the level of the platform by the introduction of infill material comprising building rubble as well as industrial and domestic waste ahead of the conversion of the building for industrial use after the station went out of use.
Testing has demonstrated that the truncated railway platforms correspond with those shown on various historic maps and early 20th-century photographs. Furthermore, these features correspond with the results of previous test trenching carried out across the line of the railway platforms, outside the terminus building, in 2017 (17E0226).
