A pre-planning test excavation was undertaken in advance of the construction of a single dwelling house in the townland of Donaghmore, 7km south-east of Clonakilty. The proposed development site is located to the south-west of the site of a church (CO136-108) and 80m south-east of a children`s burial ground (CO136-070001) and an unclassified castle (CO136-070002). A total of five test trenches were excavated to the surface of the natural clay; three were placed across the footprint of the proposed house and single trenches along the route of the driveway and the percolation area. The soil profile did not vary across the excavated areas and no features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered.
