A programme of archaeological testing and the monitoring of ground investigation pits were undertaken in the townland of Skehanagh, in Clarecastle, County Clare. The works related to the proposed construction of a temporary haulage route as part of the remediation works related to the phased closure of the pharmaceutical facility of Roche Ireland Ltd (Clarecastle).
The assessment incorporated the excavation of six test trenches and the monitoring of nine site investigation pits, which were opened at specific locations along the proposed haulage route. The trenches and pits were opened with the assistance of a 13-tonne tracked excavator that was fitted with a 1.8m grading bucket.
No archaeological remains were uncovered, and no metal artefacts were located with the metal detector.
