Monitoring of directionally drilled and open cut trenches for water main rehabilitation works in Killaloe town took place along Abbey Street and Convent Hill to the junction of the R463 O’Brien’s Bridge Road on various dates between 18 and 28 January 2019. Material encountered varied from sandy gravel with occasional large stone inclusions at the western, uphill end with heavier sandy gravel and larger stones encountered in the eastern pits. Services were encountered along the length of the trench that consisted of water connections to dwellings and commercial units and electricity supply. No artefacts or archaeological material were noted in the launch/receptor pits or the exposed section faces of the trenches.
