An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the Intermediate Pressure (IP) gas pipeline (part of the Gas to the West project) in Counties Armagh, Tyrone, Fermanagh and Derry.
The watching brief was undertaken at a number of locations, both on- and off-road. On-road construction works were monitored at some locations, for example in close proximity to churches and graveyards where burials could extend below the road beneath the ground previously disturbed for road construction. Off-road construction requiring the gas pipeline to deviate from the road into adjacent lands to cross a watercourse or other feature (e.g. underpass) was monitored.
Nothing of archaeological interest was identified in any of the areas subject to monitoring.
