A watching brief was undertaken at the location of the 18 new pole sets (at locations where poles do not currently exist) and underground cable associated with the NIE powerline refurbishment at Navan Fort, Killylea in County Armagh. The NIE powerline refurbishment traverses the townlands of Ballyrea, Ballydoo, Creevermore, Lisnadill, Tamlaght, Tray, Tirearly and Navan.
The proposed underground cable trench measured approximately 278m in length, 0.4m in width and 0.55m in depth. Topsoil stripping associated with this was monitored and the trench evaluated by the attendant archaeologist.
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the watching brief at the pole sets and powerline trenches. No archaeological artefacts were found during a scan of the topsoil from the test pits or cable trench.
