Prior to redevelopment of the site at Old Mill, Cloughmills, Co. Antrim, archaeological excavation and recording of a partially demolished building was required to try and establish whether it formed part of an earlier mill complex.
The excavation showed that the building was constructed using large stones and bonded using lime mortar. Part of the neck of a globular glass bottle was recovered from between the stonework and potentially dates its construction to the latter half of the 17th to the start of the 18th century.
Excavation of the line of a sewer trench uncovered a section of a culverted tail race, that was a continuation of another section that was previously excavated during works in 2012. The tail race culvert was not disturbed during the monitoring and was preserved in situ.
