Archaeological monitoring was carried out in response to planning conditions imposed upon a proposed development under Planning Policy guidelines PPS6 BH4 and relates to the proposed landscaping and construction works at Inver War Memorial, Larne, Co Antrim.
Monitoring of ground reduction in areas where 2 Portland stone cladded pillars, 3 low-level walls to form a semi-oval plaza and 2 stone benches and areas which will be newly paved was undertaken. Monitoring revealed that the area has been previously filled with modern material, consisting of bricks, stones and plastic. No archaeological features were identified during the monitoring works. As such it is recommended that no further archaeological works are required.
