Monitoring of test excavations took place at Clonhasten, Enniscorthy in relation to the proposed construction of a new pumping station and associated works as part of the Enniscorthy Water Supply Scheme.

The site was largely greenfield, with a small area of brownfield surrounding the existing pumping station.

In total 9 trial holes and 4 slit trenches were monitored. Excavated trenches varied in depth from 0.8-3.5m. Stratigraphy within the site was relatively uniform, consisting of grey-brown silty clay, sealed by 0.8-1.4m of light brown sandy clay, which was in turn sealed by 0.4m of light brown silty topsoil. The only variations in stratigraphy being in those pits (Trial Holes 1, 2 & 2A, and Slit Trench 3) located on built-up ground directly adjacent to the existing pumping station where the excavated material consisted principally of redeposited sand and gravel.

No archaeology was found during testing.
