Archaeological monitoring and a metal detection survey were carried out during construction works associated with a watermain and sewage scheme within and just outside of the historic town of New Ross (WX029-013). The works took place along Nunnery Lane before turning north-east, through an agricultural field belonging to the Carmelite Convent, and finally north-west along the N30, connecting to existing services in Irishtown. The fields in the grounds of the Carmellit Convent is, along with other townlands, mentioned as the site of a battlefield (WX029-013077).

A total of 101 metal artefacts including 9 musket balls and 10 coins, some of which dated to 1690, were retrieved. A total of 19 sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from field walking along the corridor of the pipeline which passed through the grounds of the convent. No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed along Nunnery Lane or the N30.
