Monitoring of works has located 19th-century deposits including culverts and walls associated with the Shannon Navigation south of Athlone Castle on the west bank of the river. Works will continue in 2019. Note that monitoring of works in the vicinity of the castle (National Monument 520, WM-029042002) were undertaken under National Monuments Consent (C000857, E004955).
