Monitoring of works in the vicinity of Athlone Castle (National Monument 520) under National Monuments Consent (C000857) has located 19th-century deposits including culverts and walls associated with the Shannon Navigation south of Athlone Castle on the west bank of the river. Works will continue in 2019 in close proximity to the castle. Note that monitoring of works not in the vicinity of the castle is reported under licence 17E0516.
