Testing was carried out on foot of a recommendation made in an Archaeological Impact Assessment of the proposed Ballymacarbry Small Mains Rehabilitation Scheme. The majority of the proposed development is located along public roads and extends past a number of recorded monuments. These areas were subject to archaeological testing under licence.
The testing demonstrated that no archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified within the confines of the test trenches and that the proposed pipeline will be placed within introduced fill/road make-up at the western end and through a natural shale-like material towards the east in Castlereagh townland.
