Monitoring of excavation works was undertaken at Shanooan, Dunmore East, Co. Waterford associated with the installation of paving, drainage works, site lighting, access control barriers and landscaping works for car parking and leisure use. The existing car park traverses a coastal promontory fort (WA027-035001-), in which the defences were levelled, the topsoil removed and backfill inserted to build up the ground level in the 1970s to create the car park. Monitoring of excavation works was conducted on the south-western section of the car park, a portion of which was located on the approximate line of the outer defences. Monitoring revealed the highly disturbed nature of the site, in which no archaeological features, stratigraphy or artefacts were recovered.
