The National School of Fews (founded in 1948) in the townland of Kealfoun is the location of a standing stone (WA015-079). It was formerly located on the south-western boundary of the school grounds. The stone had been re-located in modern times by persons unknown, to a location behind the concrete wall which divides the playground from the playing field.
Test trenches were excavated in the area on which a new classroom is to be built to the south-west of the school building. There were no archaeological finds or features exposed in this area.
The change in location was reported and a plan to re-locate the boundary wall around the south side of the standing stone is now formulated, so the stone may be viewed from the road and the classrooms.
