An archaeological excavation took place in Plots 81.04 and 81.05 in the townland of Kiltermon, County Tyrone as part of the Gas to the West project. A total of 23 possible archaeological features were identified, a kiln, one post-hole, three liners features, five pits and 12 stake-holes.

Kiln [c.41] was located center of Plot 81.05, the flue was orientated to the south-west, the bowl at the north-east; it was keyhole-shaped in plan and it measured 4.75m length, 1.25m width and 0.8m depth. The flue had two fills, (c.50) and (c.34). The bowl had 10 fills, (c.50) (c.34), (c.51), (c.52) (c.43), (c.45), (c.44), (c.46), (c.47) and (c.53).

Pit [c.04] south-west of Plot 81.04, was sub-oval in plan and measured 0.99m length, 0.75m width and 0.13m depth. It had one fill (c.08); pottery and a metal object were discovered.

Pit [c.05] located on the northern slope of Plot 81.05, was sub-circular in plan, measuring 0.35m length, 0.31m width and 0.24m depth; it had one fill (c.06).

Pit [c.14] is located south from [c.05]. It is circular in plan, measured 0.95m length, 0.9m width and 0.34m depth, and contained three fills: (c.17), (c.16) and (c.15).

Pit [c.22] located south-west of pit [c.05], sub-oval in plan, measured 0.58m length, 0.46m width and 0.2m depth and contained fill (c.21).

Pit [c.36] located south-west of Plot 81.05 was circular in plan, measuring 0.6m length, 0.57m width and 0.11 depth and contained two fills (c.37) and (c.40).

Pit [c.36] was truncated by stake-hole (c.38), it measured 0.12m in length, 0.1m in width and 0.13 in depth.

Post-hole [c.18] west of pit [c.14], sub-circular in plan, measured 0.3m length, 0.29m width and 0.13m depth and contained fill (c.19).

West of post-hole [c.18] were six stake-holes: (c.07), (c.10), (c.11), (c.12), (c.13) and (c.24). Stake-hole (c.07) measured 0.1m diameter and 0.19m depth. Stake-hole (c.10) measured 0.06m diameter and 0.13m depth. Stake-hole (c.11) measured 0.08m diameter and 0.1 depth. Stake-hole (c.12) measured 0.06m diameter and 0.13m depth. Stake-hole (c.13) measured 0.2m diameter and 0.11m depth, containing pottery. Stake-hole (c.24) measured 0.11m length, 0.09m width and 0.1m depth. Stake-hole (c.30) located 6.5m south-east of stake-hole (c.24) measured 0.13m diameter and depth. Stake-hole (c.38) measured 0.12m length, 0.1m, width and 0.13. Four stake-holes: (c.09), (c.20) (c.23) and (c.25) are clustered north and south-east of pit [c.22], 4.5m east-south-east of stake-hole (c.30). Stake-hole (c.09) measured 0.13m length, 0.11m width and 0.25. Stake-hole (c.20) measured 0.14m length, 0.12m width and depth. Stake-hole (c.23) was 0.08m diameter and 0.13m depth. Stake-hole (c.25) measured 0.11m diameter and 0.25m depth.

Linear feature [c.26] measured approximately 25m length (to limit of excavation), 2.7m width 0.4m depth and ran east-west and terminated west for kiln [c.41]. Linear feature [c.26] contained three fills (c.27), (c.28) and (c.29). Linear feature [c.31] measured approximately 6.7m length (to limit of excavation), 1.19m width and 0.41m depth, orientated north-west to south-east contained a single fill (c.32). Linear feature [c.48] measured approximately 13.5m length (to limit of excavation) 1.06m width, 0.26m in depth. It is orientated north-west to south-west; it contained a single fill (c.49).
