An archaeological evaluation took place ahead of the proposed construction of Castlecraig Wind Farm, Drumquin, Meenacloy Road, Tyrone.
Monitoring of all ground penetrating works was carried out. This included monitoring of the main access road, compound entrance, substation and the hardstand and base of all turbines. Ground reduction works were conducted using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket to the levels of naturally occurring subsoil or archaeological strata, whichever was highest. Initially the turves were removed to an average depth of 0.25m across the site, exposing a fibrous peat. The peat was then removed to reveal the naturally occurring subsoil.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the monitoring.
