A small burnt spread was found during a programme of pre-development testing at the site of a proposed solar array development in November 2016 (2016:504). The licence was extended in December 2018 to fully excavate the spread. The excavation revealed the spread to comprise small pockets of charcoal mixed with the loose stone and soil, located in a shallow irregularly-shaped depression. The shallow nature of the burnt material as well as the highly mixed soil and stone layers adjacent to it suggest that this feature was related to modern field clearance or reclamation and it was not archaeological in nature.
