Cashel – Tipperary Municipal Area, undertook the construction of a new roundabout at the junction of Ladyswell Street, Rock Road, Dublin Road and Ardmayle/Boherlahan Road. A licence was applied for to cover Archaeological Monitoring of the works, while an interim Notice of Unlicensed Archaeological Monitoring was submitted. However, in the event, no licence was received. The work occurred from 11 October to 11 December 2018. The majority of the development entailed surface removal of tarmac street surface and re-tarmacking and painting over of same. However the deeper portions of the works that were monitored consisted of the installation of new associated drainage ducts and shoes. This typically entailed mechanical excavation of box trenches of 0.4m in depth and 0.3m in width. Where the shoes were installed, the depth of excavation increased to 0.5m. The trench excavation occurred at the junction of the roads (described above) and continued northward on the Ardmayle/Boherlahan Road to catch surface water from the gradient of the hill. Similarly Rock Lane received the same treatment. No archaeology was encountered.
