Targeted testing of geophysical anomalies was carried out on foot of a request for Further Information for permission being sought for an extension to a gravel quarry at Abbeytown, Ballysadare, Co. Sligo. The testing determined that the anomalies did not correspond to any archaeological features. One potential archaeological feature, a pit, was uncovered within Trench 9 at the southern end of the site and did not correlate with any of the geophysical anomalies detected in this area.
A direct impact to this feature (F1, or any other associated features) has been identified should this area be subject to quarrying activities in the future.
