Monitoring was carried out at the site of a nursing home extension to the south-east of Ballymote Castle, a National Monument. Pre-development testing had been carried out on the proposed development site on 28 June, 2017 and monitoring of groundworks was undertaken over a six-day period from 6 June to 23 July, 2018. An area of c. 30m north-west/south-east by 12m was mechanically excavated to a maximum depth of 1.4m. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered during the works.
