This site of a proposed housing development at Fitzherbert Wood, Navan, Co. Meath is currently partially developed and it is evident that topsoil stripping has been conducted on the site during previous phases of works, but this is now covered by a thin layer of sod. Access roads, junction boxes, services and some foundations for residential dwellings are evident. No testing was carried out in the north-east portion of the site due to the presence of an upstanding raft foundation and associated services.
A total of four test trenches were excavated. During the test trenching no archaeological features or deposits were recorded. It was evident that the site has been stripped of topsoil during an earlier phase of the development and that concrete strip and raft foundations had been laid. Consequently it is recommended that the proposed development be allowed to proceed.
