The site covers an approximate area of 6.15 hectares (15.2 acres) approximately 1.5km due south of the town centre. Twenty-two test trenches were excavated. Trenches #8 and 22 were situated to investigate potential archaeological features identified in a geophysical survey of the site by Target Geophysics, detection licence no. 18R0013. No evidence for the potential archaeological features indicated in the geophysical survey in Trenches #8 and 22 was identified though four other archaeological sites (Areas 1-4) were identified.
Area 1, centred on ITM 709155, 773629, consisted of an isolated cremation pit, likely to be a Bronze or Iron Age feature. Area 2, centred on ITM 709162, 773335, consisted of the remains of a burnt mound, a prehistoric site-type with a wide date span but primarily a Bronze Age feature. Area 3, centred on ITM 709262, 773356, consisted of two pits, one of which produced a prehistoric pottery sherd. Area 4, centred on ITM 709193, 773310, also consisted of two pits while numerous prehistoric pottery sherds and several flint flakes were recovered from the surrounding surface.
