Testing was carried out within Phase 1C of The Willows residential development at Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath in response to planning conditions (Reg. Ref. RA/171416a). It followed a desktop assessment report (Tobin 2017) and a geophysical survey undertaken by John Nicholls in January 2018 (licence 18R0012).
A total of nine test trenches were excavated on 29 August 2018 targeting greenfield space and two geophysical anomalies. Two small circular geophysical anomalies (1 and 2) were revealed as geological features.
No archaeology was identified as a result of geophysical survey and test trenching. Recent geophysical survey of the adjacent lands indicate the presence of prehistoric monuments c. 120–450m north and as such there is low potential that sub-surface archaeological remains associated with these features may extend into the Phase 1C site.
