Testing prior to the construction of social housing and a training centre took place on the outskirts of Castlebar town on behalf of Mayo County Council. Twenty-four test trenches were mechanically excavated and an area of burnt stone was uncovered in one of the test trenches. A small deposit of animal bone and wood seemed to be associated with the burnt stone. An area covering 16m east x west by 14m was left aside for hand excavation. The testing license was transferred and the area was excavated in November 2018. Nothing else of archaeological significance was uncovered.
