An archaeological assessment (monitoring of topsoil stripping) took place of a proposed new single dwelling & associated site works at the Burris, Tullyallen, Co. Louth. The site is located within close proximity to LH024-001 (Church, Graveyard & Architectural Fragments) which is believed to be the site of a late medieval church.
Test trenching was previously carried out here in 2016. Two linear ditches were recorded as well as a pit-type feature and a narrow linear feature that produced a single sherd of 13th-century medieval pottery. The southernmost ditch, the pit-type feature and the narrow linear feature were located outside of the footprint of the proposed dwelling and were preserved in situ.
The northern ditch identified during testing was excavated and found to be a shallow drainage ditch of 19th-20th-century date. During the recent topsoil stripping, no features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified.
