ESB Networks had a requirement to reconnect a private dwelling house at Clonkeen, Lisnagry, Co. Limerick for the owner, Siobhán Wheeler. The Wheeler property is located immediately adjacent to Clonkeen church and graveyard (LI014-007001 and 002), which is a National Monument in State Care (Nat. Mon. No. 84). In order to provide the proper supply to the customer the existing overhead line crossing the graveyard will be reconducted. This entails trimming the trees within the graveyard and installing a new staywire on the existing pole which is located in Wheeler’s property adjoining the church and graveyard. The tree trimming was done manually with hand-held tools. The installation of the new staywire on the existing pole involved the excavation of a pit on the Wheeler property which was undertaken by machine. The customer was also required to install a 50mm electricity duct to facilitate the ESB installing an underground electricity supply from the existing pole in the Wheeler property to the existing dwelling house. This involved the excavation of a trench, c. 0.6m, for the ducting. The excavation of a pit for the stay wire was monitored and no archaeological finds or features were uncovered.
