Monitoring of groundworks for a water rehabilitation scheme along the Rossbrien Road took place over three days between 21 and 23 August 2018. The installation works involved a mix of directional drilling through a polypipe and open cut trenching along the pavement. The open cut measured 0.4-0.43m wide by 1.1m deep. On inspection the exposed stratigraphy had an upper layer of modern gravel and stone overlying a light, red-brown natural clay. This layering was visible in works along the old road to the east of LI013-121. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted in the trenches or in the launch/receptor pits throughout the length of the scheme.
