An assessment in the form of test trenching was carried out within the townland of Granafallow, Abbeyleix, Co Laois, (ITM 643014, 680965). There are no Recorded Monuments near the proposed extension to the quarry, however the wider landscape is a more than suitable setting for prehistoric settlement and activity.
In compliance with a planning condition, 19 archaeological test trenches were excavated within the site of the proposed development. The test trenching identified no evidence of any features or deposits of an archaeological nature.
